Lake Brunner Lodge

Fishing Lake Brunner

Lake Brunner Lodge is an icon of New Zealand fishing heritage and home to world-class wilderness fishing for nearly 100 years. Early guides to New Zealand fishing named Lake Brunner Lodge as one of the two best destinations from which to chase the challenging brown trout.

Lake Brunner and local rivers offer water so clear you can stalk the fish of your dreams and cast directly to them. The locations are magic, choose from 11 lakes and some 30 streams and rivers within an hour of the lodge. Enjoy secluded bays on glacial mirror lakes and remote forest-edged mountain streams.

Lake Brunner is well stocked with notoriously harder fighting brown trout, 3lb fish are considered average, a little luck and skill brings trophy-sized browns up to 8lb or more. Our recommended guides know the secret places. Drive to the river of choice, take a lake cruise on charter boats or helicopter to the most remote fish-filled streams.

Fishing includes short-cast fly fishing with floating line, dry fly and nymph. Spin casting and trolling from boats is rewarding for the keen amateur, experienced guides show the way. Equipment and licenses are arranged by the lodge or fishing guide. Open season is October till April, restrictions apply in other times.
