Hokitika Gorge

West Coast activities

There is plenty more to see and do on the West Coast. From Lake Brunner Eco Lodge you can easily access other spectacular attractions within the region.

Punakaiki

Head up the coast road from Greymouth to Punakaiki. Here you can experience Punakaiki Rocks (Pancake Rocks).

Also along the coast road you can try to make your own knife at Barrytown.

Westport & Cape Foulwind

Further up the coast road you will get to Westport where you can check out the Coaltown Museum which provides interest for all ages and tells the story of coal mining in Westport. While in Westport check out Cape Foulwind lighthouse and the seal colony at Tauranga Bay.

Hokitika

Heading south from the Lake Brunner Eco Lodge takes you to Hokitika. This area offers a range of activities and is known for its greenstone (or jade / pounamu). Many greenstone carving studios can be found here. Check out the National Kiwi Centre where you can get up close and personal with kiwi, tuatara, 200 year old eels and many more living icons of the West Coast.
The Hokitika Gorge is a must visit if you head this way. Enjoy a short walk along the gorge through native podocarp forest.
The Tree Top Walk is also another great attraction to experience while on the West Coast.

Cycling | West Coast Wilderness Trail

Cycling is another great way to get amongst it in the West Coast region. Bring your bike and head to Kumara and connect up to the West Coast Wilderness Trail. You could experience the whole trail or use it to get to Greymouth for a day of exploring before heading back to the comforts of Lake Brunner Eco Lodge.

Relish this remote and beautiful location. Under one hour’s drive from Arthur's Pass, Greymouth and Hokitika. Stay at Lake Brunner Eco Lodge and use it as your base for exploring the West Coast.
